Striving for excellence in metal cutting tools to assist aerospace manufacturing
SPF drill bits made of CFRP composite materials
Composite materials (CFRP) are widely used in the national defense industry, automobiles, and medicine due to their many advantages, such as high strength, light weight, fatigue resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and non-conductivity. Due to the above comprehensive advantages, composite materials will be widely used in wings, fuselage, tail fins, propulsion devices, and landing devices. However, there are various types of composite materials, among which carbon fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites are the most commonly used, and their processing performance is particularly demanding. Ordinary cutting tools cannot achieve high-quality product processing. Therefore, a unique tool is needed to handle this material.
SPF drill bit
Kenna Metal has developed a new type of SPF drill bit specifically for composite materials through more than a year of research and development. The matrix material of the SPF drill bit is made of hard alloy, and the surface is coated with multi-layer smooth CVD diamond coating. The special geometric design of the drill tip makes the cutting edge of the drill bit very sharp, and the optimized lateral blade design improves the centering ability of the drill bit. This design greatly reduces the cutting force of the drill bit during the machining process, improves the quality of the hole, and avoids the phenomenon of delamination and inability to cut fibers. The characteristics of smooth diamond coating are good wear resistance and low friction coefficient, which gives SPF drill bits good service life and chip removal performance. The service life of the new SPF drill bit is at least twice that of the PCD drill bit, and the cost of processing each hole is reduced by at least 50%.
